The usual picture you’ll have in mind when hearing the word “studying” is that of a student cramming in the middle of the night, with books and notebooks all around. This is a stressful picture, however, and this shouldn’t be the case.
Whether you’re taking online high school classes or short courses, there are ways to make studying much easier. All it requires is a method. Don’t just study hard; study smart.
Create a note taking system
It all starts with good notes. Though you have books to read, notes are streamlined and condensed, which makes it easy for you to understand things. As such, you need to learn how to take down notes. When listening to your teacher, take note of the keywords and important concepts. Group similar topics together and revise the structure according to your learning style. To remember things much more easily, you can use highlighters and mnemonic devices.
Choose a place
Where you study is also important, as the venue dictates your mood. You won’t study in a place full of people, will you? Go somewhere quiet. Your study area should allow you to concentrate on what you’re doing. It could be a room at home, the library, or a vacant classroom. It can also be a local coffee shop that plays easy listening tunes.
Get the right tools
You need to get the right tools that will serve as your companion while you’re studying. You need a notebook, pen, and some highlighters. If you’re not a fan of silence during study time, get your music player and listen to classical music or any song that aid in studying. You also need to have a scheduler to organize your activities.
Studying should not be difficult. Thankfully, there are some things that can help you lighten the load. Once you’re done with it, reward yourself with some treat — a tub of ice cream, perhaps?
